Recovery of Gold from Thiosulfate Using Methyl Trioctylammonium Chloride

Oct 07, 2021

Trioctyl methyl ammonium chloride plays an important role in the recovery of gold. The following is the use of methyl trioctyl ammonium chloride to recover gold from thiosulfate.

The experimental study investigated the influence of gold concentration, pH value, ammonia concentration, thiosulfate and cupric ion concentration, extractant concentration, diluent, and extraction time on gold extraction from a thiosulfate solution using methyl trioctyl ammonium chloride as the extractant, without adjusting the pH value and other conditions.

The research results showed that under the conditions of a concentration of 0.18 mol/L of methyl trioctyl ammonium chloride, a diluent mixture of n-octane and n-heptanol with a volume ratio of 1:1 (O/A ratio), and an extraction time of approximately 3 hours, the gold extraction rate from the thiosulfate solution (under conventional leaching conditions: S2O2-3 1.0 mol/L, Cu2+ 0.03 mol/L, NH3/NH4+ 3.0 mol/L, pH 10.2) was higher than 99%.
