What roles does Tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide play in rubber antioxidants?

Sep 08, 2021

Tetramethylammonium hydroxide is typically used as a preservative and antioxidant in rubber anti-aging agents. It serves the following functions:

♥ Preventing mold and decay: Tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide inhibits the growth of microorganisms, preventing rubber products from molding and decaying. This is particularly beneficial in environments where rubber materials are stored or used, especially under humid or high-temperature conditions, as it effectively extends the lifespan of rubber products.

♥ Antioxidant: Tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide reduces the oxidation reaction of rubber materials exposed to oxygen. Oxygen and other oxidizing agents can cause rubber to age, leading to loss of elasticity and performance. As an antioxidant, TMAH stabilizes the structure of rubber materials and slows down the rate of oxidation reaction, thereby extending the service life of rubber products.

♥ Dispersing agent: Tetramethylammonium hydroxide can also serve as a dispersing agent for additives such as pigments and fillers in rubber materials. It helps to evenly disperse these additives within the rubber matrix, enhancing the uniformity and quality of rubber products.
