Dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide in oil industry

Jul 23, 2024

Dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide, white crystalline powder, soluble in water and ethanol. Stable below 100 ° C, with good compatibility with cationic and nonionic surfactants. It has good chemical stability, heat resistance, light resistance, pressure resistance, strong acid and alkali resistance. It also has excellent permeability, emulsification, flexibility, anti-static and sterilization properties.

Dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide is used as an anti wax and wax cleaning agent in oil extraction. In the oil reservoir, wax dissolves in crude oil. During the process of crude oil flowing from the formation to the bottom of the well and then to the wellhead, the solubility of wax in crude oil decreases due to the decrease in pressure and temperature, leading to wax deposition. Due to the fact that the crystallization process can be divided into three stages, namely the precipitation of wax microcrystals, wax crystal growth, and wax deposition, controlling the wax in the first and second stages can achieve the goal of preventing wax deposition. Oil soluble quaternary ammonium salt (alkyl C5-C20) can be used as a surfactant and isopropanol as a solvent to prepare an oil soluble wax remover. Water soluble cationic surfactant anti wax agents mainly include quaternary ammonium salts, Dodecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, Dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide, Octadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, Octadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide, and Dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride.
